Attendance

  • Andrea Gallo
  • Grant Likely
  • Ilias Biris
  • Olivier Martin (ARM)
  • Ryan Harkin

Agenda

  • UEFI face-to-face mini sprint in Cambridge
  • UEFI SCT and ARM own tests

Actions From This Meeting

  • ACTION: Andrea to check with Members related to their participation in the UEFI mini-summit either in person or via hangout/conference at least for the last day.
  • ACTION: Ilias to follow up the progress of the existing UEFI testing done by Rony and its upload to LAVA (part of CARD-174: Bootstrapping UEFI remaining open deliverables).

  • ACTION: Grant to check with the UEFI ARM binding subteam on what clearance is needed from UEFI side in order to disclose results from the UEFI SCT testsuite via a LAVA dashboard.

Meeting Minutes

  • UEFI face-to-face mini sprint in Cambridge:
    • All agree that it is important to align on ways to add more SoC support to UEFI for ARM and how to maintain it.
    • Agreed to meet for 2-3d in Linaro Cambridge on 11th -13th December for a mini sprint. The objective of this meeting would be:
      1. Building a plan about how UEFI on ARM would look like in the coming months:
        • Code structure and restructuring.
        • Linaro pre-integration branch and maintainership
        • Current limitations - and proposed actions to overcome the limitations.
        • Scale to support more SoC/board.
        • Testing in LAVA + UEFI SCT.
      2. Prepare intro material on UEFI on ARM, to be reused also for conferences and LWN articles.
    • Note that the mini-sprint would have a limited invite-only attendance, but a follow up meeting/hangout with a broader members audience would be also setup to communicate the results from the mini-summit in terms of plans and next objectives.
    • ACTION: Andrea to check with Members related to their participation in this mini-summit either in person or via hangout/conference at least for the last day.
  • UEFI SCT and ARM own tests:
    • It is important to test bootloaders in LAVA and Rony started some work on this in discussion with Andy Doan / David Pigott. ACTION: Ilias to follow up the progress of the existing UEFI testing done by Rony and its upload to LAVA (part of CARD-174: Bootstrapping UEFI remaining open deliverables).

    • Note that the lack of sdmux support in LAVA limits the type of testing - there is no real bootloader testing possible due to this limitation.

    • Related to SCT and ARM own tests: Olivier mentioned these are being planned, not yet added on top of the existing SCT. Any test extensions from ARM would need clearance from ARM legal in order to disclose so in the minisummit in Cambridge the test extensions should be at least discussed in order to understand if it is worth going through ARM legal (which can take time).

    • Access to UEFI SCT: since Linaro is a UEFI member it should be possible to have access to the SCT. However it is not clear yet whether the tests can be added to LAVA and automated, plus showing the test results via a LAVA dashboard. This should be checked with Linaro Legal. ACTION: Grant to check with the UEFI ARM binding subteam on what clearance is needed from UEFI side in order to disclose results via a LAVA dashboard.

      • Olivier suggested also looking at the Ubuntu Firmware test suite as a worthwhile collection of possible tests to exercise. Also Redhat has some UEFI testsuite to validate that UEFI does what Linux expects or looking for common UEFI/ACPI issues - would need to contact Redhat to figure out what testsuite exists and whether it can be made available for Linaro's effort to get UEFI on ARM validated through LAVA.

      • Andrea suggests also to look at the PI SCT in source code available from PI SCT Sourceforge project referred to from the UEFI web site.
